How Does NIL Impact an Athlete's Mental Health?

ONLINE  |  Wednesday, August 10 @ 7pm ET / 4pm PT

College athletes have recently been more vocal about the many struggles that can affect their mental health due to the nature of their position as full time students and full time athletes. With NIL deals being legal for just over a year now, college athletes who want to make money using their name, image, and likeness are having to put more on their plate. We look into how NIL has impacted the mental health of student athletes over the past year.

Amanda Paul, LCSW

Clinical Therapist, Timely MD | Speaker, Podcast Host, Blogger, Content Creator | Certified Meditation Teacher

Amanda L. Paul, LCSW, is a clinical therapist who specializes in working with BIPOC, LGBTQ+, Military/Veteran Communities, College Students, and Women for almost a decade. She currently works with TimelyMD providing mental health counseling to young adults and college students adjusting to life in college and transitioning to life after graduation. Amanda views this transitional age as an opportunity for exponential growth and resilience. She is also a change agent, advocating for accessibility at the intersection of mental health with diversity, equity, and inclusion. Whether she's providing direct clinical services or leading initiatives and programs that support inclusivity, she is rooted in her belief that mental wellness is a right, not a privilege.

She is a speaker, podcast host, blogger, content creator, and certified meditation teacher. Amanda loves fostering community among women of color, networking, and creating empowerment & self-care workshops. In 2021, she was honored to be selected for her alma mater's Mazzuchelli Award. An award given to a Graduate School of Social Work Alumnus who serves the community in truth, love, and demonstrates leadership in the field of Social Work.

Amanda is all about finding harmony with work/life so she creates space for her favorite self-care practices; visiting coffee shops, practicing watercolor art, boxing, and playing horribly on the tennis court.
